Encyclopaedia Iranica: The Legacy of a Nation Past and Present

Tuesday, Dec. 15th, 2009 - 6:30 p.m

This event was a special
celebration commemorating the completion of the midway point of the
Encyclopaedia Iranica, the landmark undertaking by its founding Editor,
Dr. Ehsan Yarshater, to record and document the history, culture, and
life of the Iranian peoples from prehistoric times to the present. Dr.
Yarshater surveyed the remarkable work that has been accomplished to
date on the Encyclopaedia, as well as the challenges that remain in
completing this monumental endeavor intended to preserve the legacy of
one of the oldest and most influential civilizations developed in the
Middle East.
The
event also featured Rumi Mystical Poetry Recital by Dr. Iraj Anvar,
with Traditional Persian Music by the Ava Ensemble, and a Special
Performance by Renowned "ExperiMentalist" Gerard Senehi. A silent
auction was conducted to benefit Encyclopaedia Iranica.

Encyclopaedia Iranica Benefit Gala
"Celebrating Persian Culinary Art"
Washington D.C., May 16, 2009 - 6:30 p.m.
Guests of Honor: Prof. Azar Nafisi and Shirin Neshat
The
Encyclopaedia Iranica held a Gala Benefit Dinner in
Washington, D.C., on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Focusing on Persian
culinary art, the Gala honored seven distinguished advocates in the
field, including Najmieh Batmanglij, Etrat Elahi, M. R. Ghanoonparvar,
Darioush Khaledi, Maideh Mazda Magee, and Nesta Ramazani. The event featured music from Bijan Atri, dance numbers by Silk Road Dance
Company as well as silent and live auctions. Homa Sarshar served as
the Mistress of Ceremonies.

Encyclopaedia Iranica Benefit Gala at Lincoln Center
“Danses Mythologique” with Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam
New York, June 28, 2009 - 7:00 p.m. - Alice Tully Hall
An evening program featuring a series of dramatic dances
choreographed by Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam, member of La Comédie
Française. The dances, inspired by masterpieces of Persian poetry, were the centerpiece of a tribute to the Encyclopaedia Iranica.
